"Amateur to IM Proven Ideas and Training Methods by Jonathan Hawkins(published by Mongoose Press) is a title which very likely catches the attention of most chess players. Most of us dream about getting our Master-Titles in chess which are comparable to the PhD you can get at university!

The author, Jonathan Hawkins was a relatively strong player when he began working harder and in a structured way to get his IM and later GM norms! He qualified for the FM-Title in 2008 and earned the title of an IM in 2010. One year after he managed to collect two GM-Norms by participating in the super-strong British Championship!

In this book Amateur to IM he describes and shares his most important notes while studying and which according to Hawkins were the source of his success that literally took him to the olymp of chess! At the beginning he used his excellent memory for chess to study opening lines and reached a very good level of play. But slowly but surely he realized that the understanding of chess comes not with the study of opening lines, so he changed his focus to a subject, which already the old soviet masters regarded as the most important phase of the game: the endgame!

The 60 games annotated in this volume were al during 1957 through '67 and, with the exception of nos. 44 and 50, under strict tournament conditions. The notes frequently include reference to additional games, occsionally presenting them in full. An interested reader will find 34 of my earlier efforts in Bobby Fischer's Chess Games (Simon and Schuster, 1959). All 60 here offer contain, for me, something memorable and exciting---even the 3 losses. I have tried to be both candid and precise in my elucidations in the hope that they would offer insights into chess that wil lead to fuller understanding and better play. Finally I wish to express my gratitude to Larry Evans, friend and colleague, for his invaluable aid in preparation of the text well as foir his lucid introductions Robert J. Fischer

Garry Kasparov has dominated the chess world for more than twenty years. His dynamism and preparation have set an example that is followed by most ambitious players. Igor Stohl has selected 74 of Kasparov's best and most instructive games from 1973 to 1993, and annotated them in detail. The emphasis is on explaining the thoughts behind Kasparov's decisions, and the principles and concepts embodied by his moves. Stohl provides a wealth of fresh insights into these landmark games, together with many new analytical points. This makes the book outstanding study material for all chess enthusiasts.

In 1985 Garry Kasparov became the youngest world chess champion in history by defeating Anatoly Karpov in an epic struggle. Twenty years later he was still world number 1, and is an internationally renowned figure, famous even among the non-chess-playing public following high-profile events such as his matches against IBM's Deep Blue supercomputer, and the Kasparov vs. World game in 1999.
