"Amateur to IM Proven Ideas and Training
Methods by Jonathan Hawkins(published by Mongoose Press) is a title which very
likely catches the attention of most chess players. Most of us dream about
getting our Master-Titles in chess which are comparable to the PhD you can get at university!
The author, Jonathan Hawkins was a relatively
strong player when he began working harder and in a structured way to get his
IM and later GM norms! He qualified for the FM-Title in 2008 and earned the
title of an IM in 2010. One year after he managed to collect two GM-Norms by participating
in the super-strong British Championship!
In this book Amateur to IM he describes and shares
his most important notes while studying and which according to Hawkins were the
source of his success that literally took him to the olymp of chess! At the
beginning he used his excellent memory for chess to study opening lines and reached
a very good level of play. But slowly but surely he realized that the
understanding of chess comes not with the study of opening lines, so he changed
his focus to a subject, which already the old
soviet masters regarded as the most important phase of the game: the endgame!
