This is a repertoire book for Black in the King's Indian by an elite player and experienced author. Victor Bologan doesn't give every line for Black, only the ones that he considers best or those in his personal repertoire. There is a lot to fit into the book's 356 pages, and Bologan does an admirable job of covering the lines in breadth and in depth.

Part 1. Minor Variations [Chapters 1-10]
Part 2. Averbakh Variation [Chapters 11 and 12]
Part 3. Saemisch Attack [Chapters 13-16]
Part 4. Four Pawns Attack [Chapters 17-19]
Part 5. Classical Variation [Chapters 20-27]
Part 6. Fianchetto Systems [Chapters 28-31]
[Final Part] Other Fianchetto Systems [Chapters 32-34]

Bologan has followed the approach familiar to readers of other Chess-Stars opening books, especially the Khalifman series: on the first page of each Part, the author gives a brief introduction to White's ideas in his chosen method of facing the KI, and then at the beginning of each chapter Bologan gives a very brief explanation of White's goals of the chosen system and how Black ought to deal with them. As he moves through the lines he proposes he gives some brief tactical/strategic comments and in some cases shows why this or that move should be played. When the time comes for sample continuations from GM practice, Bologan gives the line with a brief evaluative comment at the end.

Alexander Kotov's trilogy, of which this is the second volume, marks a landmark in chess literature. For the first time, a leading player managed to tackle the important elements of chess mastery in a methodical way which all chessplayers could understand, spiced with insight and colourful observation. Furthermore, his ideas and approach are as relevant to players today as they were when the books were first published.

This book follows on from Kotov's previous work "Think Like a Grandmaster". It is a guide to chess-playing for the amateur player. The book covers positional judgement, planning, combinational vision and calculation and practical play - each with many examples.

There are more than 30 moves to choose from in a typical chess position. Yet masters regularly manage to select the best one--and they do it faster, more confidently, and with less calculation than other players. The reason: masters know shortcuts that enable them to think more efficiently. International Grandmaster Andrew Soltis explains these techniques, including how to use specific cues to find good moves, how to streamline the analysis of a move's consequences, and how to use both objective and highly subjective criteria to find the right move--from any position. An enlightening window into a Grandmaster's thinking process.

The Improving Chess Thinker by National Master Dan Heisman focuses not on giving players new knowledge, but rather improving the thought process they use when choosing their moves. The book relies heavily on protocol positions developed by Dr. Adriaan de Groot, and shows how players of different ability levels analyze positions and deliberate their move choices, while also providing plenty of insight on how to ween oneself off of bad thinking habits and using more efficient thinking techniques. This book is great for chess instructors and anyone who wants to attack their chess weaknesses from a different angle.
